After studying music in the United States for the past year and a half, Dana will be performing in Hobart for the first time since she left, sharing the new material she has been developing at the Jacobs School of Music — one of the world’s leading jazz programs.
Dana is a jazz vocalist from Devonport, Tasmania, and a current Fulbright Scholar living in the U.S. Her career has taken her to stages across the globe, including London, Los Angeles, Salzburg, and Vienna. During her time in America, she has opened for legendary soul artist Mavis Staples, recorded for Yamaha’s Music for All initiative alongside Fred Armisen, and appeared as a featured soloist with the Jacobs School’s top ensembles.
At home in Australia, Dana has performed at Canberra’s Parliament House for the Prime Minister, sung at Skyfields Festival with Missy Higgins and Neil Finn, and directed and sung with Marcia Hines’ backing choir.
Punchbowl is a Melbourne-based band founded by two UTAS students, blending pop-rock originals with a jazzy edge and rich, satisfying harmonies. With their debut single on the way, the band has been gigging across Melbourne and is heading back to their hometown to share what they’ve been working on.
Pianist Louise Denson teams up with multi-talented co-conspirators Hamish Houston (bs) and Matt Apted (dr) to play a selection of her original compositions. Enjoy lyrical waltzes, lively sambas, lilting bossa novas and more! Beautiful melodies, rich harmony and happening grooves to celebrate the middle of the ever unpredictable Tasmanian summer….
